To use the Slovak diaľnice (motorways, D-roads) and rýchlostné cesty (expressways, R-roads) you need a valid e-vignette. It's linked digitally to your licence plate via the eZnamka system, so there's no sticker needed anymore.
Our price includes the service fee for immediate, digital linking to your licence plate in English, with no hidden costs at checkout.

Unlike in some neighbouring countries, the Slovak vignette requirement doesn't apply to the whole road network. Only the actually tolled sections of the motorways (D1, D2, D3, D4) and expressways (R-roads) are covered; not every newly opened or urban section is tolled yet. If, for example, you only drive on ordinary regional roads through Slovakia, you don't need a vignette. Signage clearly marks where you enter a tolled section.
Checks are carried out via cameras along the tolled roads and during police stops. Without a valid vignette you risk a fine that can add up significantly; if paid on the spot it's usually lower than when the case is handled administratively. Make sure your vignette is active before you enter a tolled section.
The vignette covers multi-track vehicles (cars and motorhomes) up to 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight. As mentioned above, motorcycles and trikes are fully exempt from the eZnamka requirement. If your vehicle is heavier than 3.5 tonnes, it isn't covered by this vignette. A light trailer or caravan without its own licence plate is covered under the towing car's vignette; if your trailer does have its own licence plate, check whether it needs a separate registration.
eZnamka is the Slovak digital vignette system: fully linked to your licence plate, with no physical sticker, checked via licence-plate recognition.
Yes. Just as in the Czech Republic and Bulgaria, the Slovak eZnamka requirement applies only to multi-track vehicles (four or more wheels); motorcycles and trikes are fully exempt and don't need a vignette on the diaľnice or rýchlostné cesty.
Besides motorcycles, exemptions also apply to vehicles with a valid disabled parking permit, historic vehicles, and emergency services and defence vehicles, among others.
Largely, yes. Only for the 1-day vignette is there a small price difference: € 36.95 for a motorhome versus € 34.95 for a car. For the 10-day, 30-day and annual vignette you pay the same rate.

The vignette requirement applies to the motorways (D1 to D4) and expressways (R1, R2, R4 and R6). Ordinary roads (1st, 2nd and 3rd class) and streets within built-up areas don't require a vignette; a clear sign marks the start of every tolled section.
Yes. As soon as you use a tolled section of the D- or R-roads, even for a brief transit, a valid vignette is mandatory. Even the 1-day vignette must already be valid before you enter the motorway; buying one afterwards doesn't cover an earlier trip.
You risk a fine considerably higher than the vignette price itself; the exact amount can change. If paid on the spot, the fine is usually lower than when the case is handled administratively. Checks are carried out via cameras along the tolled roads and during police stops.
No, the 1-day vignette must also be valid before you enter the motorway. Buying one afterwards doesn't cover an earlier trip and won't prevent a fine for the period you didn't yet have a valid vignette.
Slovakia has had the digital eZnamka system since 1 December 2015, and since 2020 the physical sticker version is no longer available: the vignette is now fully digital and linked to your licence plate. So you don't need to stick anything to your windscreen; checks are carried out via licence-plate recognition.
In practice, you as the driver are responsible for this yourself, unless the rental company explicitly arranges it for you. Apply for the vignette using the rental car's licence plate and check this plate carefully; you usually only know it for certain once you pick up the keys.
No, a vignette is linked to one specific licence plate. If your lease car changes (and the licence plate with it), a vignette on the old plate isn't automatically valid for the new car. If you've recently had a change, always check that the plate on your vignette still matches your current car.
No. In Slovakia, as in most other countries on this site, a light trailer or caravan without its own licence plate is covered under the towing car's vignette. If your trailer does have its own licence plate, check whether a separate registration is required for it.
No, a vignette is always linked to one specific licence plate. If you drive through Slovakia with several vehicles, each vehicle needs its own vignette.
